Persephone in Evolutionary Astrology: Meaning, Shadow and Medicine

Persephone: from victimhood to Queen of Alchemy.

I made this one for all of you carrying Persephone, which is everyone, since it lives somewhere in every chart. What most are taught is the maiden abducted into the underworld. What I love about Persephone is that she chooses to eat the seed, and that she becomes the queen of the underworld, the one who can escort others through. Persephone pairs with Pluto, so this one's the partner to the Pluto post.

Persephone is taught in full in Dark Night: Persephone and Dark Moon Lilith, the Chart Lab.

Persephone, in words

What it feels like: The deep feeler.

Persephone is such an extremely deep feeler; that's why she's so vulnerable. You become permeable. You can feel other people.

With our menstrual cycles we are literally abducted and taken into the under-realms, into the deep emotion.

The day before our cycle starts we can feel so emotional, or crazy, or angry, just a surge.

What most are taught: The abducted maiden.

What most are taught about Persephone is the maiden in the field, abducted by Hades into the underworld. All of that is in there.

Go deeper and she chooses to eat the seed of the pomegranate. She makes the first choice.

In that, we see the psyche in us all that desires depth, that desires the unknown, that desires the transformation.

The overflow: Queen of Alchemy.

Persephone is the one who is not afraid of the dark. It is her realm. It's her mastery, and it's actually what she loves.

She ends up representing the queen of the underworld, the one who can escort others through. But that is a journey earned.

She becomes the vessel of transformation, the body that alchemizes pain into gold.

The overwhelm: Victimhood.

Refusing the responsibility of the crown is part of Persephone. This is how she stays a victim and childlike, waiting to be chosen instead of choosing herself.

Persephone holds exceptional levels of self-care, because the shadow is self-abandonment.

The spine rises up: no one's going to do this for me. I need to save myself.

How it ripens: Through time.

The dark nights of the soul are a realm that we visit, that call us to find aspects of ourselves, our hidden dimensions.

We can know that always we do return, but we forget in the moment.

She's abducted until she is no longer. Then she is the shaman queen. We keep meeting with these aspects of ourselves through time.

The highest

Through the shamanic lens, the abduction is the moment of rupture in psyche. The wound becomes a portal, and it's initiation.

Our experiences never go away, but our relationship to them does, and that's the difference between feeling like a victim and feeling like a sovereign queen.

I descend to rise. I am the vessel and the flame, and I am the queen of my becoming.
